About Me: My Story, My Journey

My Story So Far:

I am Valerie, French but leaving in the UK. I am married with 2 daughters.

I used to think of myself as healthy and fit and taking care of my appearance up until I got pregnant. I had a successful career, living the rat race in London & started to take things for granted. Then, I got a wake-up call when after excessive workload imposed upon me by my employer I slowly spiralled into depression in the summer of 2009 and ended up having to quit my job...
Shortly after that, we decided to move to the country to help my recovery, achieve a better life-balance and a safer environment for the girls to grow up.
I was over-weight, exhausted and needed to regain my physical and mental health. It has been 2 years now, and weight loss has been the basis for my successful recovery...I am still on my journey and will share with you how I got here and where I still want to get to!!

I originally started a on line weight loss & exercise program with Rosemary Conley which was great at the beginning, but got too difficult for me to continue because my family (husband & 2 children) were moaning too much that they didn’t like the meals I was cooking for all of us! I lost about 5 kilos over 4 months, but I quickly put them back on when I stopped the program.
I still think it is a great & effective program if you are able to cook for yourself, if you are single or you don’t mind making 2 different meals each time you eat with your family!

I then got introduced to USANA supplements which really helped me get the energy back in my body. After a while I found out about USANA’s own weight management program called RESET and did not hesitate to give it a try. I also joined a local gym and exercised at least 3 times a week. The both combined helped me to get to where I am at now.
I have just stopped my gym membership, because I need more flexibility to manage the timings of my workout sessions and I want to be able to exercise by myself in my own time at home.
I am lucky:  I started my own business, working from home...so I have the luxury to fit everything around my kids & around myself too.  It is an expensive luxury because I hardly earn any money at the moment, but health & family is more important!

In the past 2 years, I did lose weight down from 82 to 64 kg... but I am back up again and I need to make sure I maintain my fitness level for the longer term. The long-term achievement is to get down to 60 kg and I probably still need 6 to 12 months to achieve this. It is not so much losing the kilos that I want... it’s more shaping a lean body & toned muscles.
I have a picture of myself from 2 years ago and also one now...but I have yet the courage to show them to you. I am confident I will soon do so though.

I am starting with the RESET 5 week program from USANA, combined with a variety of daily 30 minutes gentle workouts I choose myself, progressively increasing to at least 1 hour daily. I will then progressively move to more challenging workouts.
